Asian Film Market 2018,Are You Ready?

The Asian Film Market, one of the most renowned film markets in Asia, will be held for 4 days during the 23rd Busan International Film Festival. The Asian Film Market provides participating companies a total film business experience, from promotion to distribution, along with audiovisual content. Celebrating its 13th edition, the Asian Film Market launches industry events with the Asian Project Market (APM), a marketplace for co-production, and Entertainment Intellectual Property Market (E-IP Market), a marketplace to deal original and adaptable content into films as well as organizations such as the Korean Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), Korea Manhwa Contents Agency (KOMACON), and Barunson Co.,Ltd..

Components

 

  1. Sales Booths

In its open exhibition venue, each sales booth will provide a meeting place for various companies involved in sales, production, film/media technology and E-IP in order to promote film, audiovisual and new media content. The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) and Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) have established the pavilion to promote Korean films and broadcast content. The pavilion will be organized by countries such as Taiwan, Philippines and Europe.

 

  1. Market Screening

This year‟s market screenings will take place at the LOTTE CINEMA Centum City and BEXCO from October 6th (Sat) to October 8th (Mon). Market Screening is an event for film industry associates and is only open to Market Badge holders and guests invited by participating sales companies.

  1. Asian Project Market (APM)

The 21st Asian Project Market (Asia‟s largest joint venture/production market) has selected 29 official projects from 16 countries. The number of submissions increased by 30% compared to last year with 401 project submissions from 69 countries. The number of applicants from various countries around the world has steadily increased over the past years. The global investors and co-producers are focusing on the selection of new and emerging Asian directors/producers as well as their growth. Selected projects will be considered for the 9 APM Awards; award winners will be announced at the APM Awards Ceremony on October 9th (Tue).

  1. E-IP Market

The E-IP Market is a market place for all intellectual property rights to original works (novels, web comics, and web dramas). This year, the Korean content selection range will increase and outstanding Asian E-IP will be introduced with a focus on Japanese and Chinese novels. The E-IP Awards for 8 selected works will be held at the Event Room on October 8th (Mon).

 

  • Book To Film

Since 2012, Book To Film has served as a meeting place for publishers and filmmakers to meet and discuss the viability of adapting books into films. The marvelous 15 selections will be presented to various personnel from the film and media industries at the “Book To Film” pitching event and business meetings. The market place will be significantly enhanced through pre-business meeting applications submitted by industry associates.

2) E-IP Pitching

Entering its fourth year, E-IP Pitching is a place to introduce original content from web dramas, web novels, web comics and original stories adaptable by entertainment industry professionals that can fit across multiple media platforms such as film and media. After submission, with intense and fierce competition, 14 projects will be introduced at this year‟s E-IP Pitching. The E-IP Pitching will achieve more than expected through pre-business meeting applications submitted by industry associates.

3)Asian IP Showcase

This year, 8 novels from Japan and 12 novels from Mandarin speaking regions suitable for the viability of adapting books into films will be introduced at the E-IP Market for the first time. Through an agreement between Asian Film Market and BC Agency (novels from Japan) and Eric Yang Agency (novels from Madarin speaking regions), Korean domestic agencies affiliated with local publications will participate in the 13th Asian Film Market to secure the second copyright.

  • Story to Film

“Story to Film”, formerly New Story Creation Project Pitching, is co-organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and the Asian Film Market with the host Producers‟ Guild of Korea (PGK). One of the largest story competitions in Korea, „Korea Story Open Competition‟ presents award-winning works to industry representatives for the first time. Also, through project pitching and meetings, Story to Film introduces high-quality content to the market and evaluates the production potential.

  • Korean Film Asks the Way to Platform

Online Markets such as IPTV and OTT bring new vitality and open new horizons to Korean films with consideration of Korean film competitiveness. “Korean Film Asks the Way to Platform” is co-organized by the Korean Film Digital Distribution Association (KFDA) and the Asian Film Market. Korean film content and online platform associates will share ideas on the digital distribution as well as development of Korean films and platforms in a win-win approach.

  • Comics & Film Pitching Show

Comics & Film Pitching Show supports the second content promotion by introducing comic production for the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency (KOMACON) and domestic digital comics to content-industry representatives. Mutual exchanges of film/image associates at the event will further advance the future of digital comics.

  • VR Conference

The 23rd Busan International Film Festival focuses on films nominated to the „VR cinema in BIFF‟ and encounters the direction and identity of VR film. VR Technology: Expansion of the Creative Realm explains the new VR technology and discusses its future. VR Narrative: Walking the Fine Line between Movie and Game deals with the significance and identity of VR films through films nominated at the Venice International Film Festival.  

  • Block Chain: New Current of Movie Industry

Block Chain’s impact on the film industry will be discussed from the perspectives of investment and distribution. Block Chain Investment deals with the impact of film production investment through ICO on the ecosystem of film production.
