13 genre film projects from 13 different countries (Spain, Indonesia, Japan, France, Sweden, Taiwan, Italy, Brasil, Laos, Singapore, Finland, Serbia, Malaysia, Lithuania) to be presented at the second edition of FOCUS ASIA, the co-production film market that will be held in Udine from 26th to 28th April during the Far East Film Festival.
The event will bring together professionals and key players from all over the world at the Teatro Nuovo, where the meetings will take place (in “Sala Fantoni” and in the lounge on the 4th floor, a space dedicated to one-to- one meetings and panel discussions with decision makers), and at “Cinema Visionario”, where the actual market screenings will take place.
The selection, among the 72 applications, was carried out by a committee made up of some of the major experts on genre film: Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Bucheon, South Korea), Black Nights Film Festival – Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event (Tallinn, Estonia), Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (Sitges, Spain) and the Nordisk Film & Fond’s Nordic Genre Boost (Oslo, Norway).
Last year, with FOCUS ASIA, FEFF experimented with its first Industry section, giving the possibility to Asian and European buyers to exchange ideas and thoughts on genre film productions (finished projects). This year FOCUS ASIA becomes the platform through which future genre cinema is created!
Over 100 decision makers, possible financiers and sales agents from both markets will meet up with the producers and directors of the 13 projects. XYZ, Media Asia, M-Line, Showbox, Wild Bunch, Reel Suspects, M-Appeal are among the confirmed companies. The rich programme of activities includes one-to-ones and a series of panel meetings, case studies on development strategies, financing and distribution, such as the sessions Fixing A Broken Model: Global Distribution In The Digital Age held by Todd Brown (XYZ), Being John
Malkovich – Or Getting Into The Mind Of Investors held by Juliane Schulze, and the case study of ‘Mr Long’, a Japan-Taiwan-Germany co-production recently screened in competition at the Berlin film Festival.
Get accredited to participate in all of FOCUS ASIA 2017’s sessions, meet with decision makers or fix appointments for the selected projects.
FOCUS ASIA is organised by Centro Espressioni Cinematografiche/Far East Film Festival, with the collaboration of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund, MIA – The International Audiovisual Market, Roma and Trieste Science+Fiction Film Festival, and with the support of Direzione Generale per il Cinema – MiBACT, Istituto Luce, Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico, ICE, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the City of Udine.
